Wave Shape

Flintshire Sub Aqua Club is a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), the largest and oldest diving club in the World.

Our training will give you an internationally recognised qualification. We pride ourselves on the high level of training we provide by experienced instructors. Our training begins with theory lessons in a friendly classroom environment followed by practical scuba session usually the same night a in a swimming pool, once proficent in both you then move onto confined open water training usually in a quarry and/or in the sea subject to the weather and season.

The BSAC diver grades are as follows:

Ocean Diver

This is the basic entry qualification. The training begins with lectures in diving theory and practical sessions in the pool. Once these have been mastered we move into diving in open water, normally in a local quarry such as Vivian in Llanberis. After you have completed your training and built up your experience of diving in different conditions and depths you will be able to dive to a maximum depth of 20 metres.

Sports Diver

As a Sports Diver you will be trained in additional techniques which will include diver rescue and practical safety techniques. The emphasis during your Sport Diver training is on building upon your open water diving skills and expanding your experience. When qualified as a Sports Diver the depths to which you can dive can gradually be extended to a maximum depth of 35 metres. Sports Divers can dive with other Sports Divers.

Dive leader

Dive Leaders are more skilled and experienced divers who take a more active part in helping organise the diving activities of the club. Dive Leader training concentrates on the responsibilities of leading open water dives. There are practical lessons in rescue management and rescue skills to give the confidence of dealing with those rare unforeseen emergencies.

Advanced Diver

Advanced Divers are very skilled and experienced divers who can organise and supervise diving expeditions at different sites and under different circumstances. This is the highest level of training which Flintshire Sub Aqua Club can offer within the branch.

First Class Diver

First Class Diver is the most skilled and experienced level of diver. This qualification is only awarded at a national level by the British Sub Aqua Club.

Skill development courses

These courses can be run in parallel to the above training, some being run at Branch level or through Regional Coaches depending upon the course. Flintshire Sub Aqua Club regularly runs these courses in a consortium of local BSAC diving clubs including Wrexham Seals and the Chester Sub Aqua Club.
